Packaging for ourFUTURE
For some years now, we have been reviewing the sustainability of our business divisions at ASSMANN. Where can resources be conserved? How can we make our business even more environmentally friendly and thus do our part to help protect the climate? All these questions have become a central element of our company spirit. We call our initiative "ASSMANN goes green". In this initiative, different project groups develop successful ideas and implement them.
Environmentally friendly design of product packaging is a major and crucial step in this process. With the development of new environmentally friendly packaging we are embarking on a new path and even risk losing the recognition effect that packaging can have. We have made this decision because it is the right one. This allows us to achieve various interim goals: we reduce the use of plastics and cut down on the volume of waste, we produce packaging that is easy to recycle and ensure environmentally friendly processing overall.

How we design our packaging to be environmentally friendly
The adaptation of cardboard packaging applies to all cardboard packaging from the DIGITUS® range. In the past, our packaging was made from white cardboard, printed in color and foil laminated. This processing method consumes resources and is not recycling-friendly. The new packaging is now made of natural cardboard or uncoated paper and still contains all relevant product information. It is now printed monochrome in black. We no longer laminate with foil.
We have also achieved a reduction of the packaging volume. The smaller the packaging is, less material is used and less waste is generated. At the same time, we reduce the freight volume thanks to the reduced packaging volume.
Many DIGITUS® products, such as many of our cables, were previously available in half or full blister packs. In the future, we will largely dispense with plastic packaging and will ship and sell these products in stable bags made of natural cardboard/uncoated paper. Detailed product information in a variety of languages as well as a product picture in black are printed on the packaging.
With our new environmentally friendly packaging, we are pursuing a clear line that we orient on sustainability considerations. Nevertheless, the boxes will continue to contain all important product information as well as product illustrations. This new clear approach includes removing bells and whistles, such as fold-out boxes or viewing windows. This saves production time, paper, cardboard and plastic.
Our environmentally friendly packaging will be manufactured to a large extent using environmentally friendly materials. This also applies for the inside of the box. Large and high-quality products fit securely in cardboard boxes. We print operating manuals and instructions on uncoated, plain paper.

Which types of packaging are perceived
as particularly sustainable?
Most consumers perceive packaging made of paper and cardboard to be particularly sustainable. This was determined by the Global Consumer Survey in 2022. The topic of sustainability also plays a major role for consumers. But customers also judge products by their packaging.
ASSMANN goes green meets this need with environmentally friendly packaging and thus fulfils an important customer wish.

Working together for a green future
In order to preserve a livable world for following generations, responsible business decisions determine the course we take – this has been true from the very start. With our apprenticeship initiative ASSMANN goes green , we are going one step further by enabling the younger generation to contribute their own ideas and implement projects that they feel strongly about.
Our environmental responsibility as a business includes critically examining elements such as power consumption, packaging waste and the means of transport used for business travel.

ASSMANN project groups
For multiple years now, ASSMANN has viewed the topic of sustainability as a continually growing challenge that is managed by various project groups. Living sustainably is a process that we support and follow in all respects.
Electromobility
With electric cars for employees, we are committed to an environmentally friendly future. ASSMANN Electronic GmbH also offers its employees the option of leasing e-bikes so they can move about without emissions and get some exercise while doing so.
Compensation contribution
The employees of ASSMANN Electronic GmbH flew around the world more than 14 times in 2019 overall. After this high-flying year, we decided to switch to train travel in the future. A donation of €4,000 was also made to a climate protection organization as a voluntary compensation contribution.
Waste management
How can we make the workplace more environmentally friendly? For example, we don't use plastic cups. In addition, there is only one shared garbage can per office. For years, we have separated paper waste at our company and dispose of this using the in-house paper press.
The ASSMANN bees
Our company premises are surrounded by forests and meadows. The ideal environment to set up two company beehives on our grounds. Once enough honey can be harvested, all ASSMANN employees receive a jar of honey as a sweet reward for their environmental endeavors.
